Is there any better feeling than swimming naked? We’ve always known it felt amazing, but what we didn’t realise is just how many health benefits come with a cheeky skinny dip, most notably improved body image!

Yep, as terrifying as the idea of getting your kit off might seem, research suggests getting naked more often actually improves your relationship to your body. In a research paper published in the Journal of Happiness , “It was found that more participation in naturist activities predicted greater life satisfaction — a relationship that was mediated by more positive body image, and higher self-esteem.”

Add to that the exhilaration of being truly present in nature — a rare experience for most of us, most of the time — and you might just have a shortcut to feeling happier, healthier and more mindful in a matter of minutes. Really, what’s not to like? If you aren’t lucky enough to have a pool or a bit of secluded coast line (or even a creek) at your disposal, there are plenty of nude beaches. Here are some popular spots in Australia if you’re feeling brave.
